Netflix Q3 Results - Squid Game success

Netflix has released Q3 results and the company can be proud of its achievements.

With its hit series “Squid Game“ and “La Casa De Papel” (“Money Heist”) premiers and a wide range of new content, Netflix has gained 4.4 million new subscribers in Q3 of 2021. The quarter’s subscriber growth was a solid beat over the predicted 3.84%.

Quality content is a key ingredient to the success of this company. The fact that they introduced “Squid Game”, the South Korean dystopian series that has, according to Netflix, become the “biggest TV show ever” speaks in favor of that. The company said 142 million member households around the world watched the show in its first four weeks.

The offer of good content has led to excellent financial results as you can see on our infographic. Earnings per share (EPS), surpassed predictions estimates of $2.58 and rose to $3.19. Unlike EPS, Revenue matched analyst forecasts of $7.5B.

The company's shares rose nearly 5% in after-market trading. Over the past year, Netflix's stocks have provided a total return of 29.9%, above the S&P 500's total return of 16.7%.

Moreover, the business is on track to generate a 20% operating margin in 2021. In the past, the operating margin amounted to around 3% in any given year. This metric shows to investors the profitability of a business and offers a convenient way to compare competing businesses.

Netflix is definitely staying on track with that increase in profitability. After breaking even on this figure in 2021, management firmly believes that Netflix will be able to produce cash flow on an annual basis starting 2022.

Despite the fact that it’s becoming increasingly difficult to get new and keep existing subscribers due to greater competition, Netflix is keeping a positive attitude. In their latest statement the company said it expects 8.5 million new subscribers in the fourth quarter.

“We have so much content coming in Q4 like we’ve never had, so we’ll have to feel our way through and it rolls into a great next year also.” Said Netflix co-CEO Reed Hastings.
