Although Bezos' trip to space will be very short, his other departure is the one that worries the market. As you probably heard already, Jeff Bezos will soon depart from the position of chief executive officer of Amazon.com. However, he is not leaving the company. He will simply move to the position of executive chairman and will focus on new products and initiatives.

He founded Amazon 25 years ago when he was only 29 years old. From a small online bookseller the company has grown into an Internet giant with more than 1.3 million employees, two headquarters and $126 billion in sales in the fourth quarter of 2020 alone.

Amazon has become the third most valuable company in the U.S., thanks to Bezos’s devotion to the company and his high standards. As you can see from our infographic, the company's market capitalization amounts to 1.713 trillion dollars. 

If we observe his management skills, we will notice that Jeff’s primary goal is to have happy customers. Some call that “customer obsession”. He doesn’t mind paying extra costs as long as the customer is satisfied with the service.

Who Will Be The New CEO of Amazon.com, Inc.?

The new chief executive of Amazon.com will be Andy Jassy, who has been leading Amazon’s AWS cloud computing business. The news came alongside an earnings report in which Amazon posted its first $100 billion quarter. AWS, under Jassy, reported 28% revenue growth for the fourth quarter.  About 52% of Amazon’s operating income was attributed to AWS as of October 2020.

Bezos departure did not come as a surprise, on the contrary it has been planned in advance for years. Bezos will transition to executive chairman of Amazon’s board. But as it has been shown many times before, transitions from one CEO to another doesn't really have a larger impact on the company itself. 

This is because in big companies not many things happen unplanned, especially with important positions like choosing CEO.
